Why do I need a permit to trim my oak trees?

The City of Windcrest is dedicated to keeping its many oak trees safe from Oak Wilt. Ordinance No. 2019-713(O) helps mitigate the spread of Oak Wilt within Bexar County. Permits help keep track of trees that are the greatest risk of infection, and ensure their safety after being trimmed or cut.

Contractors

All contractors, or people hired to trim oak trees, must provide a valid tree license and be registered with the City of Windcrest when applying for an Oak Tree Trimming Permit. Preferably, contractors should have a Tree Maintenance License from the City of San Antonio. Residents should ask before hiring anyone to trim or prune their oak trees. A list of contractors or companies that have current licenses can be found on the Texas Oak Wilt Vendors page.
