Sentencing
The judgement and sentence for the offense you are charged is the payment of a fine and cost. If you cannot pay, notify the court immediately. If you are determined by the court to have insufficient resources or income to pay, the court is required to provide you other ways to discharge the fine and costs.

Keep Moving Violations off your Driving Record
You may be eligible for a Defensive Driving Course or Deferred Disposition. CDL Drivers are not eligible for a Driving Safety Course or Deferred Disposition.
Reset Court Dates
To reset your court date, you must request it in person or by email or mail. You are allowed one reset of 30 days free of charge. For an additional reset, you must post a $100.00 bond (per violation)
City Code Violations
All City Code Violations require a court appearance where the Judge will set the fine amount.

Availability
Defensive Driving Course or Driver Safety Course is an option for those who are trying to keep a moving violation from appearing on their driving record. It is a 6-hour course that can be done online. Contact the Municipal Court with any questions about Defensive Driving.
Eligibility Requirements
- Defensive Driving is ONLY granted to speeding violations less than 25 miles per hour over the posted speed limit, other moving violations, or seat belt violations.
- Requests may ONLY be made in person, on your scheduled court date, or by email or mail.
- Requests MUST BE received on or before your court date.
- Course MUST BE completed within 90 days of request.
- Defendants who have completed defensive driving in the past 12 months are NOT ELIGIBLE to retake course.
- A defendant that possesses a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is NOT ELIGIBLE for Defensive Driving.
Required Documents to request defensive driving:
- A current/valid Texas Driver’s License
- A fee of $144.00 (non-refundable), must be paid at the time of request. View Acceptable Payment Forms
- A plea of "Guilty" or "Nolo Contendere" submitted.
- Proof of current/valid financial responsibility (insurance) with your name listed as a driver. The effective date of coverage must be prior to the issue date of citation.
Active Duty Military Personnel, please contact the Municipal Court for Defensive Driving
After Course approval
- Request driving record (Version 3A) from TEXAS.GOV
- Choose a course
- You will be given 90 days to complete course
- Once course is completed you will be given a certificate of completion
- Bring certificate of completion and driving record to the Windcrest Municipal Court or email the court both items
Availability
Deferred Disposition is an option to keep a moving violation from appearing on your driving record. Contact the Municipal Court with any questions about Defensive Driving.
Requesting Deferred Disposition
Request must be made in person, or on scheduled court day, or by email or mail.
Terms of agreement:
- The fee is the fine amount plus $35 (must be paid at the time of the request).
- If the defendant is under the age of 25 by State Law the defendant must complete defensive driving as a condition of the probation.
- Other restrictions may follow based on the agreement.
- Receive no citations during the 90 day probation period.
If the terms of the agreement are broken, a Capias Pro Fine Warrant will be issued for an arrest.
Court Appearance
- All juveniles must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
- Mandatory court appearances are required for all defendants under the age of 17 for City Ordinance Violations
- Juveniles who fail to appear in court may have an additional charge of failure to appear filed against them.
- Failure to appear by a parent is a Class C misdemeanor and you may be fined up to $200.
All alcohol, tobacco, and drug paraphernalia violations require a mandatory court appearance for a defendant under the age of 18.
Juvenile Notification
When a child and parent appear before the court, they have an obligation to provide the court in writing with the current address and residence of the child. This obligation does not end when the child reaches the age of 17. The child and parent shall notify the court of the current address within 7 days after the change of address. It is a Class C misdemeanor if you do not comply with the court.
The obligation to provide notice terminates on discharge and satisfaction of the judgement or final disposition not requiring a finding of guilt.
Payment
Payment plans can not be granted for a warrant, payments must be paid in full.(Visit the payment tab for acceptable forms of payment)
When mailing your payment, you must provide a plea of "Nolo Contendere" or "Guilty". Municipal Court Mailing Address
For Example:
"I, (Print Your Name Here), do hereby waive my right to a Jury Trial and enter a Plea of (select one: Nolo Contendere/Guilty)."
Pleas
If you wish to plea not guilty, you must post a cash bond of $100 per offense in person to obtain a new court date.
